ANA POPOVIC BAND, THE BASEMENT, SYDNEY SEPTEMBER 21st 2016

On her first visit to Australia, this lady absolutely blew audiences away with some fine performances firstly at the Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival then some side shows along the eastern seaboard promoted by blues hero Tony Cini. The show in Sydney was in a word, breathtaking, as Ana and her gun band ( Lavondo Thomas on bass and Stepane Avellande on drums and guest keyboard player Mark from Australia) showcased songs from her latest album “Trilogy”,….

…. a three CD set that she refers to as, morning, mid day and midnight which is bluesy and jazzy in it’s context. The performance opened with “Ana’s Shuffle”….

…. and the eleven song set which ran for one hour and forty five minutes finished with a medley of “Hold on”, “Going Down”and “Crosstown Traffic”. Described by Guitar Player Magazine as “The fearless blues burner who refuses to play it safe” and counting among her fans Bruce Springsteen and Billy Gibbons, Ana Popovic is truly a force to be reckoned with musically.
