With a stellar career spanning 4 decades, Richard Clapton is an Australian music icon, his songs are the soundtrack of our lives. Richard has continually recorded and released numerous records with an unmistakable Australian sound. His landmark album Goodbye Tiger was, without doubt, his most critically acclaimed and successful album. Now 40 years since its release Richard Clapton performs Goodbye Tiger in its entirety for one night only at the Enmore Theatre Saturday 20th October.
Goodbye Tiger, was described by music historian Ian McFarlane as “his most celebrated work, an album full of rich, melodic and accessible rock with a distinctly Australian flavour. It established Clapton’s reputation as one of the most important Australian songwriters of the 1970s.”
Clapton’s journey began when at just 16 he charmed his way into a Sydney hotel to hang out with the Rolling Stones. From that day on, Richard Clapton knew he was going to be a rock star. It’s now almost 50 years since that fateful day -years filled with a lifetime of incredible experiences, outrageous good times and a catalogue of iconic and timeless songs. Through the glory years of rock ‘n’ roll, bouncing between London, Berlin, Sydney, Los Angeles and Paris, Richard forged his own career and built up a significant body of work while living, loving and partying with the biggest names in music. For 40 years, Richard Clapton has been, above all else, a songwriter-a wry observer of human behaviour and an astute commentator on the Australian condition. His best songs- Deep Water, The Best Years of Our Lives, Goodbye Tiger, Glory Road, Lucky Country, Girls on the Avenue, Trust Somebody and Capricorn Dancer – capture the essence of this country and the meaning of our lives like few others.
The ARIA Hall of Fame inductee and acclaimed songwriter also became an author as his published his memoirs “The best years of our lives” in 2014. Now you will have the chance to join Richard Clapton as he recreates the magic of Goodbye Tiger and shares a lifetime of memories on stage.
