Swamp HouseNews & Reviews

All the right ingredients have been thrown in the pot and stirred to perfection for this little festival. Folk In Broke is set in New South Wales’ beautiful Hunter Valley Wine Country region, in the centre of McNamara Park , over looked by the Brokenback Mountain Range & Yellow Rock. With a list of artist to match this heavenly location, Folk In Broke is set to be a magic day for any music & nature lover.

Playing the festival will be Bakoomba with their Hot Afrobeats, Skanking Reggae, Bass-Slapping Funk, Cool Jazz and Raw Percussion that create a fusion of intoxicating, dance-inducing and utterly infectious music. A blend of roots, reggae and folk, wound together with captivating hooks, solid grooves and striking harmonies from Sydney’s Black Bird Hum….

…. Mitch Power a heartache troubadour, an accomplished guitarist and a songwriter who knows how to find just the right balance between poetry, musicality and storytelling. Songwriter and storyteller, Melbourne’s Liz Stringer….

….Is it pop? Is it folk? The Coconut Kids from Belgium, Ireland & Australia, will get your toes tapping. Newcastle’s Alt Country/ Folk Duo The Wayward Henrys ….

…. Rhythm Hunters combining music from Indonesia, Japan and Australia. Cutting edge physical percussion, didgeridoo, western horns, Asian flute, deep grooves and ethereal sound scapes describe one of Australia’s most exciting music groups. Central Coast singer songwriter Fletcher Pilonwe caught this young artist at Lizotte’s Newcastle early this year and man he blew us away ….

…. The Blues Preachers will take you to another place and time, somewhere between 1920 and 1940. Their music paints a landscape of pre-war struggle and determination with sounds reminiscent of the Deep South. The gorgeous and oh so very talented Georgina Grimshaw ….

…. and Big Erle‘s handcrafted, well worn blues is sure to get your feet a tappin’ and your thighs a slappin’. From the delta to the hills of Alabama Big Erle will take you back to the time of sugar cane fields, moonshine and juke joints.
