Australia’s FourPlay String Quartet have been crafting their own brand of politically charged indie rock string arrangements for over two decades, growing ever more eclectic with each release. Their wildly original material and radical pop song reinventions have seen the band play at esteemed venues across the country and the world including New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Barbican Centre in London among others. Fast forward 20 years on since the release of their first album Catgut Ya Tongue, the established outfit have just shared their second digital release of the year, with latest single ‘Wish’ and are thrilled to now reveal its impeccably suited new video by accomplished film director Heidi Lee Douglas.
The brains behind such films as Defendant 5, Little Lamb, and Devil Woman, Heidi Lee Douglas is an award-winning writer/director whose works have featured and premiered at multiple film festivals all across the globe including Fantasia International Film Festival (Canada), Newfest (USA), Aotearoa Reel Earth Environmental Film Festival (NZ) and more. Teaming up with FourPlay whose core messages and vision perfectly mirror her own, Douglas has created a piece of work that is both evocative and thought-provoking, using clever symbolism and beautifully curated sets, props and costumes to complement the quartet’s haunting ballad.
“We combined narrative and symbolic elements drawn from singer/songwriter Tim Hollo’s personal story of what inspired the song. His daughter’s anxieties about growing up in a world affected by climate change are embodied powerfully by Actor/Dancer Marigold Pazar. By the end of the song her character has found the courage and strength to lead us into the future.” – Heidi Lee Douglas
To celebrate the digital release of ‘Wish’ FourPlay will be heading on a six-date single launch tour across the East Coast of the country this September. Performing at intimate venues in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and more, FourPlay will present their highly polished live arrangements and continue to share their views on environmental protectionism and social activism through their stunning string arrangements.
