Calling all artists… Bluesfest Busking competition applications are now open! This is your last chance to be a part of the 2017 Bluesfest line-up.
The Bluesfest Busking Comp has a huge following of both musicians and music enthusiasts alike and this year will be no different. The annual Bluesfest party starts with the Busking Competition, with the busking heats kicking it off in and around Byron in the week leading up to the festival.
Kim Churchill (2009 winner) on his Bluesfest Busking Comp experience ‘I finished high school in 2008 down in Merimbula and each weekend found myself, and my van where I lived, getting further and further from home. I wound up away for a good month and during the time played in the Bluesfest Busking comp. I can honestly say the experience was the catalyst for everything that followed. It gave me the opportunity to play @bluesfestbyronbay and get to know the wonderful people that run it, who over the years have been beautifully supportive and pivotal in helping me take each new step of my career. Bluesfest have been a base for me and it’s an enormous and very special part of not just my career but my life and journey. The BUSKING COMP started it all, Anita, Melissa and everyone that runs it create magical moments for young artists like me each year… it’s incredible!!’
The Comp has endless opportunities for artists, including the grand prize for the Over 18 Winner to open one of Bluesfest’s main stages. The Bluesfest Busking Stage during the Easter weekend showcases a continual line-up of amazing artists deservingly selected by the judges to wow the Bluesfest crowds. It’s the perfect stage for that intimate musical experience, promoting musical discoveries that defy expectations and honouring exceptional artists as they pave their career in the music industry.
The Grommet category also contributes to one of the most memorable and exciting Bluesfest experiences, with the event finalists having the opportunity to join in the Grommet Showcase with a day of incredible young talent on Easter Sunday. The Grommet Event is limited in numbers and is quickly reaching capacity so get your applications in quick for your chance to enter.
Prizes for the Bluesfest Busking Comp. are greater than ever. Along with stage performance slots up for grabs we also have recording packages for the winners, mentorships, film clip packages, custom made guitars to give away, paid gigs and loads more. Plus, opportunities exist for roaming buskers setting the scene in the Food Court and Front Gate with that added Bluesfest and Busking ambiance – so don’t hesitate, get your applications in to secure your last chance to play at the 2017 Bluesfest!
