A few weeks ago, Melbourne rockers MID CITY burst onto the scene and into your ears with their incendiary indie guitar pop jam “Dead Broke Blues”, designed to make people dance hard and forget about everything else. Audibly, it was mission accomplished. Now there’s a visual accompaniment for the single that not only shows the band’s performance chops, it really does make you want to fucking let loose.
Directed by friend and TVC guru Alec McCloskey, the clip was brainstormed, as all great ideas are, over a few beers. MID CITY singer Joel Griffith said; “In this climate sometimes it seems like everyone’s got it together but you. False perception is your reality. We wanted to cut the crap of having it all worked out, spark a bit of joy and remind people that even if we are all gonna go to hell we might as well all dance like possessed frogs”.
So, who is the ol’ codger with the serious moves dancing like the band lives in his head? He was a last minute find as the original talent got a bit too acquainted with the bar at the bowls club before the shoot. A few frantic phone calls later, the band found their dancing soulmate, a bearded part-time actor who looks like he could stare you down and bore holes through you. But in reality, he had a blast dancing, however, he wanted to, old on the outside, with the internal spirit of you, me or your three-year-old neighbour.
MID CITY has also announced that they will be bringing “Dead Broke Blues” and a slew of other brand new tracks from their forthcoming EP to the stage for their debut shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Don’t miss your chance to dance like a possessed frog. Without judgement.
