Back when the cold months started approaching, Melbourne’s MID CITY burst onto the scene and into our ears to heat things up with their driving indie guitar sound. First single “Dead Broke Blues” showed the band’s anthem-esuqe songwriting chops and ability to let loose. Luckily, for our aural pleasure, their latest track “Old Habits” continues along the same path.

Premiered on Wednesday by Declan Byrne on triple j’s Home and Hosed, the track is a fast-paced, furious call to action.

MID CITY singer Joel Griffith said; “Old Habits is about the journey of rejection, resilience, and rejuvenation. It’s about a relationship I had that was all stars and Snickers bars for a while but went south because of some old habits I should have known would surface. Of course, hindsight’s 20/20 but that doesn’t stop you kicking the crap out of yourself.

Once it’s over, you deal with diametrically opposed emotions. On the one hand, you miss the person like hell, but sulking in your boots quickly swings to a need reclaim your own identity. Like “fuck this noise, I want my life back”.

Get your ears around MID CITY and stay tuned for more details on their debut EP and upcoming live shows.
