POW! NEGRO EMERGE AS SUPEREGO – A NEW NAME AND A FRESH SOUND WITH “I AM THE JUDGE”

Last month, highly revered hip-hop group POW! Negro sold out two shows in record time, then shocked fans with an announcement that the shows were their last. After a period of mystery and speculation, the six-piece have announced their transition into SUPEREGO and offer a new single I Am The Judge under a new moniker, complete with a fresh sound.

From selling out shows across the country to playing prestigious festivals such as Womadelaide and Woodford to being hand chosen to support acts such as Midnight Oil, Sampa The Great and Remi off the back of their debut EP Jasmine & Licorice, the group are moving to a more scaled back beats-heavy hip-hop production. The first offering “I Am The Judge” features additional production/mixing from POND’s James Ireland who has just collaborated with Kanye West on the track “Violent Crimes” from his latest album ye.

On their rebirth, the band said;
“Over the past two and a half years as POW!, we’ve learnt and subsequently grown more than we ever thought we could have. It has taken us a long time to recognise what we really wanted to be and stand for as a group, and we’re still learning. The next steps for the group will be as SUPEREGO. As a culturally and musically diverse group, we wanted a name that was representative and reflective of everyone and feel this new identity encapsulates us as a whole.”

To celebrate the release of the latest single and transition, the group will be embarking on a small tour of Australia playing to intimate crowds to showcase material from their forthcoming EP. They will play their first festivals as SUPEREGO at Caloundra Music Festival and Exmouth’s Ningalens Festival
