Look up sun-bleached guitar-driven dream-pop in the music dictionary and you’ll find Mosquito Coast

Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, Naomi Robinson and Conor Barton burst onto the scene in 2015 chosen out of 850 entries to be crowned triple j’s Unearthed High winners in 2015. Since then, there have been singles, an EP, numerous national tours and high profile festival appearances.

Following on from their recent single “Skipping Girl”, the WA duo return with “Sweet Talking”; a racy new track to get the blood pumping.

The track showcases a maturity in the Mosquito Coast’s songwriting. It’s garage pop with new wave influences. It’s the excitement of a new relationship expressed via synths, harmonies and a relentless momentum.

Conor explains;
“The original guitar licks were really dirty and playful, trying to have an Unknown Mortal Orchestra vibe. When we pushed the tempo it really started to pump. To stop it from being a conventional garage track we decided to change up the vocals and try speaking it instead. We were trying to channel David Byrne in ‘Once in A Lifetime’ and Kim Gordon in ‘The Sprawl’. Lyrically, this is our most racy track, with an empowered voice and confident sexuality.”

Recorded in New York City, “Sweet Talking” is taken from their debut forthcoming album, created with renowned French producer Nicolas Vernhes who has worked with some of Naomi and Conor’s favourite artists including Moodoid, War on Drugs, Animal Collective and Deerhunter.

Sweet Talking” is taken from Mosquito Coast’s highly anticipated debut album, coming your way soon. You can catch them in a town near you as they head on a national tour this February and March.
