Gareth Leach has released the official music video for his new single, Death & Taxes, which hit radio earlier this week. The album of the same name is due to drop on Friday, 14 September, with Gareth launching the album that night at The Spotted Mallard in Melbourne.
The single, Death & Taxes, was penned by Jasper Hollis and 2018 Golden Guitar finalist, Gretta Ziller and features classic sounding outlaw guitar licks played by Lee Morgan, Leach’s powerful vocal performance and chorus harmonies from Gretta Ziller also, capturing the gritty and raw emotion of Death & Taxes.
Directed, filmed and edited by Gareth’s videographer wife, Jade, the music video for Death & Taxes is a visual representation on the inner struggle of dealing with your own fears, insecurities, choices and demons if you like, all in one.
The video focuses primarily on the character of the song, telling his story on a journey that leads to a train station as a final destination where the character sees a troubadour (Leach’s touring guitarist, Shane McGrath) enhancing the characters struggles in a desperate and unrevealed “fight or flight” moment when the train leaves the station, neither confirming nor denying whether the character actually boards the train of not.
Dramatically shot in black and white to emphasise the clarity of the concept, the music video was shot on locations around Echuca, including an abandoned house, an old train station, and historic wharf.
