Having recently released their racy new track “Sweet Talking”, Australian dream-popsters Mosquito Coast present the accompanying video, a visual homage to the 80s aural soundscape of the single.

Citing references like David Byrne and Kim Gordon, “Sweet Talking” showcases a maturity in Naomi and Conor’s songwriting. It’s garage pop with new wave influences.

And speaking of influences, the video was inspired by cult 80s film clips; think raised platforms, soft focus, emphasised colours, neon lights and artificial dessert trickery – you literally are being “sweet-talked” to.

Naomi said “We really enjoyed the costumes and faux  stage setup of this film clip! The concept was left in Hiball’s hands and they came back with a powerful vision of 80’s glamour.” Conor adds “Pops of colour, pastel schemes, soft focus lighting, fuzzy eighties flairs  – “Hold Me Now” by Thompson Twins was a major inspiration.”

Sweet Talking” is taken from Mosquito Coast’s highly anticipated debut album, coming your way soon. Since its release, the single has climbed the AMRAP Regional (#1) and Metro (#4) Charts, along with multiple Spotify playlist additions and full rotation to triple j. You can catch Mosquito Coast in a town near you as they head on a national tour this February and March. Until then, you can get your fix in this surreal dream-pop video.
