NEWCASTLE’S GOLDEN GIRL; LYN BOWTELL, BLITZES GOLDEN GUITAR NOMINATIONS
At the announcement of the Golden Guitar nominations in Sydney yesterday, there would have been no way to miss the name Lyn Bowtell. Not only did Lyn perform on stage with her Country/Roots ‘Supergroup’ Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart but she also received a total of 7 nominations, the most of any Artist on the day.
As a band Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart grabbed nominations for Duo or Group of the Year, Alternative Album of the Year and APRA Song of the Year, The trio also picked up nominations for Heritage Song of the Year for ‘Goulburn Valley Woman’….
….and Bluegrass Recording of the Year for their song ‘I Hear Them All’. Lyn picked up two further nominations in the Vocal Collaboration of the Year category for her duet ‘Bartender Blues’ with Adam Harvey and a song she co-wrote called ‘F U Cancer’ with good friends Beccy Cole and Catherine Britt.
True to form, as one of the hardest working women in Australian Country Music, the record number of nominations for the blonde songstress has topped off a hugely successful year.
A year that began with Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart being called on to perform a stunning rendition of Kasey Chambers “I Still Pray” at the 44th CMAA Awards Show in Tamworth has seen Hunter Valley local Lyn Bowtell busier than ever.
Her role as Director of the CMAA Academy of Country Music has seen her mentor a whole new crop of upcoming talent while still maintaining a steady stream of live shows, both solo and with BBU. With both her songwriting and vocal skills always in high demand, Lyn is constantly lending her talent to collaborate with other artists both live and in the studio. This has certainly paid off with two of those collaborations receiving the official nod during yesterday’s announcement.
There are two opportunities to catch Lyn on stage at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January. One with Bennett,Bowtell & Urquhart and one which will see Lyn reunite with her first ever band Southern Steel (as well and some very famous friends who will be joining them on the night).
You would think that would be enough to keep anyone busy but Bowtell has also managed to squeeze in a show at Lizotte’s with BBU band mate Kevin Bennett on Thursday, December 8…just for those who can’t make it to Tamworth or those who can’t wait for January to see these polished performers live on stage.
Lyn Bowtell’s solo career continues to go from strength to strength with her highly acclaimed ‘Heart of Sorrow‘ album and now the official industry recognition for the self-titled Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart album it seems that everything Lyn Bowtell touches turns to gold.
