Airlie Beach was hit hard this year. Cyclone Debbie ripped through the premier tourist destination, devastating parts of the region. Now three months on, thanks to the determination of the locals, the area is open for business. The only thing missing is you. Airlie Beach Festival of Music is now in its 5th year and is fast becoming one of Australia’s favourite boutique festivals, bringing 74 bands to the Whitsundays for 3 and a half days of unreal entertainment.

2017 will see International and Aussie music legends will combine with emerging artists from all over the country from our Passport to Airlie Beach battle of the bands competition.

This oceanfront festival is situated at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. The Main Stage is under a massive marquee looking out onto the Coral Sea, at the Whitsunday Sailing Club. Be immersed in the music from our 18 stages throughout beautiful Airlie Beach.

In 2013 along with the festival we launched our Passport To Airlie Beach battle of the bands competition. Since it’s beginning it has grown from 8 competitions throughout Queensland in Cairns, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. In 2014 Newcastle was added, In 2015 Tamworth and Melbourne came on board. In 2017 we are proud to add Toowoomba, Nimbin, Adelaide, and Darwin making Passport To Airlie Beach the biggest battle of the Bands competition in Australia.

In the past 4 years over 400 bands have taken part in battles to win their way to Airlie Beach. This year Battles will run between July and October. The winning band in each region will:

  • Be added to the line up at Airlie Beach Festival of Music 2017 playing in various venues throughout town,
  • Battle it out with the winners of other regions to come back in 2018 for a spot on the main stage! 
  • 4 nights accommodation
  • VIP tickets 
  • $1000 performance fee
  • an interview with Balcony TV
  • the prestigious opportunity for bragging rights as the join the lineup with some of the biggest names in music.
